If you want a little taste of Mexico coupled with Mexican-style courtyard dining, head just north of downtown Santa Fe to Gabriel’s. Gabriel’s has long been a favorite of Santa Fe locals. The restaurant is located under shady trees close to the Santa Fe Opera off Hwy 285/84.

When people visit New Mexico and see restaurant names such as Tia’s Cocina and Marias, they immediately think they are in for some standard Mexican-American fare. You know… tacos, enchiladas and refried beans, usually smothered in yellow cheese. But you’ll be surprised when you visit places like Santa Fe and Albuquerque. New Mexico has a cuisine of its own. It is a blend of local Native foods, Hispanic foods and ranch cuisine of the high desert.
