Florida: coast by coast VIII – Gunkholing
The barrier islands separating Clearwater and St. Petersburg, Florida from the Gulf of Mexico end at Pass-A-Grille, a village on the National Register of Historic Places. From there, a ferry takes passengers to Egmont Key and Fort Dade. The two forts protected Tampa Bay even during the Civil War.
