Ice skating in Galveston? Yes, at Moody Gardens

Snow and ice are uncommon weather occurrences along the Texas Gulf Coast.  But you can still go ice skating.  The Moody Gardens outdoor ice skating rink in Galveston is a great place to get active and have some fun, too.  Open every day from12-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. through January 2, 2011, the area’s only outdoor ice rink features views of Offatts Bayou.

Skimming along on ice is wonderful entertainment, but while you’re at Moody Gardens be sure to take in the Festival of Lights.  In fact, skating is included in your ticket for the Festival, where you’ll marvel at more than one million lights sparkling along a beautiful path filled with animated light displays and live entertainment.

Admission to the nightly Festival of Lights is $5.95; skate rental is $5.00.  New this year at Moody Gardens is snow—come play in the white stuff on Friday evenings.

Additional holiday attractions at Moody Gardens—enough to fill a weekend and get you indoors when you’ve finished ice skating—include IMAX 3D theater, the Ridefilm Theater’s show Santa’s Late! The Ride, Moody Gardens 4D Special FX Theater production of Polar Express, and a special music and dance production of the Biblical Christmas story called Imagine Christmas.
