Springfield-Branson National Airport – Make your trip short, so you don’t get caught up in that airport parking fee. Head straight to their gift shop. Mugs, key chains, candied crickets and Route 66 Sweatshirts. They have a big selection in the airport gift shop and the inventory does change seasonally. Who Knew?

Address – 2300 N. Airport Boulevard, Springfield, MO.   Phone: 417.868.0500. Hours: 5:00 am to 10:00 pm. The airport is accessible. I like the heavy clay coffee mugs. They remind me of Frankhoma pottery, with the roomy handle and the thick walled cup that keeps coffee warm longer.

Springfield/ Route 66 KOA – Then, who would have thought of the KOA campsite? In the office or supply store, find a big selection of Route 66 memorabilia and souvenirs. My favorite thing here: the sodas. Old fashioned soda bottles and old fashioned flavors like cream soda and the orangiest orange soda you ever did see. KOA even has a selection of T-shirts from dad size to the baby size Route 66ers. Now that is just precious, don’t you think?

Oh! One more thing at the KOA. They have Tick Tock Cat clocks, you know, the ones with a metronome tail and the tick tock, tick tock motion of their eyes?

Oh and just so you know, hang a candy cane from the rear view mirror while on the road trip. Santa can use the candy cane as a homing device when it is time to deliver presents. Really, Really. No, Really, I saw it on color television!
