Pass-A-Grille dock

The barrier islands separating Clearwater and St. Petersburg, Florida from the Gulf of Mexico end at Pass-A-Grille, a village on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearby, a road leads across the water to Fort DeSoto, a Pinellas County park with the fort, a campground, a dog park and one of the best beaches in the United States. From there, a ferry takes passengers to Egmont Key and Fort Dade. The two forts protected Tampa Bay even during the Civil War.
