Lights Spectacular spreads cheer in Johnson City, Texas

Trees glow at Christmas at Pedernales Electric Company headquarters in Johnson City, Texas.

Christmas is glowing in Johnson City, Texas, and families are taking advantage of mild evenings to bring excited children to the Lights Spectacular display. The Blanco County Courthouse has long formed the centerpiece of this fabulous show, but the entire town shines brightly, too.

Blanco County Courthouse in Texas welcomes visitors during Lights Spectacular

More than 100,000 twinkling lights glimmer during the 22nd year of this stunning display. Additionally, the Pedernales Electric Co-op’s Headquarters boasts a lighted forest of over one million lights. Every inch of bark and limbs is covered with tiny white lights, and larger bulbs gleam through the branches. Together with holiday lighting on local homes, businesses and churches, parks and street corners, Johnson City’s Christmas presentation makes a glowing gift to the community.
Lights sparkle until midnight each night through January 1, 2012. Most of the special events associated with Lights Spectacular have already occurred this season, but carriage rides are still available for just $5.00 per person, and live music is scheduled for certain dates. Check the Chamber of Commerce calendar for exact times. Additionally, some local businesses have extended hours for holiday shopping or browsing through galleries.

Johnson City (named for the family of former president Lyndon B. Johnson) is located in central Texas, 48 miles west of Austin and 60 miles north of San Antonio.  It is one of the most outstanding stops on the Texas Hill Country Regional Christmas Lighting Trail—an unforgettable destination even if you’re not able to travel the entire trail.
Bed and breakfast cottages and down-home cooking at local restaurants entice visitors to stay overnight.  Several art galleries, nearby wineries, antique shopping, and Pedernales State Park are local attractions for those who can visit longer.
