Buried Alive in Mansfield Ohio on the Shawshank Trail

Mansfield OH is a beautiful all-American Main Street community in Ohio. Well, it was until October. Now, Mansfield Ohio is down right scary. Here are the 5 spookiest spots in Mansfield:

1. Haunted Prison Experience 2011 – Deranged! – Come if you dare and visit one of the scariest haunted experiences in the area: 2011 Deranged at the OSR*. Running now, Thursday through Sunday, every week until October 31, 2011.

Hours: Thursdays – 7 pm – 11 pm, Fridays and Saturdays – 7 pm – 12 am, Sundays – 7 pm – 10 pm. Gates open at 6 pm – Box office opens at 6:30 pm. Admission: Thursdays and Sundays $15, Fridays and Saturdays – $17

* OSR, for those of you who have never done real time, is Ohio State Reformatory.

2. Hallowicked Haunted Woods is Friday, October 21, 2011, 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm Hallowicked is a self-guided trip to hell and back. Scream your way through 30-45 minutes of horrible scenes and horrors. Hallowicked promises “Whatever your fear . . . it’s here!”

Hallowicked features the original buried alive entrance. Scream in terror as you are locked in separate coffins and unleashed into the Hell that is Hallowicked: Haunted Woods. Tickets are $13 and parking is $3 on these dates: Oct. 14-15, Oct 21-22, and Oct 28-29. For more information go to Ohio Haunted Woods

Survivors of the OSR and the haunted woods may want to follow the Shawshank Trail. I don’t know anybody who has survived all three attractions. Leave a comment if you are a survivor.

3. Shawshank Trail – Drive to the 12 sites where the movie was filmed. Download a Shawshank Trail Drive-It-Yourself Tour brochure.

Start and stop at your leisure. Some locations are 45 minutes from one another. ShawshankTrail’s main attraction is the Historic Ohio State Reformatory.

4. Honey Haven Farm Fall Festival – Bring the family for mazes, wagon rides and to shoot corn cannons. Fall Festival Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, Noon – 6 pm, October 1 – 30, 2011.

  • Take a horse-drawn wagon ride to the field to pick pumpkins ($6/pumpkins),
  • Test your strength and accuracy at one of the 3 pumpkin slingshots ($1/shot or 6 shots/$5)
  • Shooting one of the 3 air-powered corn cannons (3 shots/$1 or 20 shots/$5).
  • Free activities: Let the little ones run through the indoor straw maze (free for kids 10 and under) and visit the small barnyard zoo.
  • Wind your way through the 8-acre family friendly daytime corn maze
  • 8-acre corn maze – “Ohio Proud” is family friendly 8-acre corn maze. Learn about things made in Ohio, and why it’s important to buy local, buy fresh when it comes to your food.
