Fall is the perfect time for pumpkin picking & hayrides at Battleview Orchards located at 91 Wemrock Road in Freehold, New Jersey.
Freehold, New Jersey is central-west New Jersey and Battleview is off of Route 9 South and 33 West, to Wemrock Road. Convenient for Staten Islanders, North Jersey and South Jersey residents. Easy to get to from Brooklyn and Manhattan down the Garden State Parkway, exiting at 123.
The folks at Battleview Orchards have been farming since 1908. “Pick Your Own” apples and pumpkins are special family fun activity days that are part of the Battleview experience for several decades.
You just need to purchase your membership card at the Country Store for $1.00, which allows a car load of people parking and picking privileges in the apple and pumpkin orchards during the fall season. Each family is required to have a 2011 membership card to pick.
Children really enjoy this activity: Selecting their own pumpkins and picking apples straight from the trees.
COSTS:
It’s $1.30 per pound for apples and $.65 per pound for pumpkins. Mondays and Thursdays are Senion Citizen Discount Days in the Country Store and at the Orchard. Bring Grandma and Grandpa with you to receive this discount.
Approximate Dates:
“Pick Your Own” dates run from September 24 through October 31st, 10 AM to 5 PM. Weekends are hayrides. Always call ahead to confirm dates, supply and weather: 732-462-0756 or 732-462-0970.
Summer Picking:
For other fruit picking schedules: Strawberries start in May 2012. Sour cherries start June 2012. Nectarines and peaches, July through September 2012.
Country Store:
The Country Store has an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, apple cidar and goodies for children of all ages. Apple cidar donuts are prepared by the thousands daily. They are powered, sugar, glazed or plain. Simply delicious!
OTHER SITES IN THE FREEHOLD AREA:
Battleground State Park, on Route 33 West, is approximately five minutes from the orchards. This is another great outdoor location to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy some of the treats that you’ve puchased at the Country Store.
Another great way to spend a day in Freehold, New Jersey is at the Freehold Mall off Route 9 South. The Freehold Mall a five-minute ride from the orchards. The Mall is an indoor shopping mall with hundreds of stores. There are several restaurants like Johnny Rockets, McDonalds, yoguart and ice cream shops, pizza, salads in a full food court, all on the second level of the Freehold Mall.
Fall is a great time to spend a day or two in Freehold, New Jersey.

I could just taste the apple cider and warm donuts.
Agree about the cider and donuts. We say we do U pick for apples but really go to orchards in our area for their apple products. The donuts never make it home.
Love the story. Fall orchard tours are one of our favorite day trips.
