Get away at Horseshoe Bay in central Texas

No matter where you are in Horseshoe Bay near Marble Falls in central Texas, water takes center stage. While you’d expect a resort built on a lake to center activities around water, that’s just the beginning of the sensory experience.  Abundant waterfalls, fountains, and pools, as well as constant level Lake LBJ, offer soothing sounds and cool respite from summer’s heat for guests staying at the Marriott, the resort’s full-service hotel. Surrounded by stately palm trees, colorfully landscaped gardens, and picturesque grounds, it doesn’t take long to leave the workaday world behind.

As temporary members of the private Horseshoe Bay Resort, Marriott guests have access to a wide range of amenities offered at the 7,000 acre property. Guests can rent a variety of water sports equipment at the marina, swim or sun by several outdoor pools, swing golf clubs at three championship Robert Trent Jones, Sr. courses, play tennis on 14 courts (Laykold, clay, or Pro Grass), lounge at the private beach, stroll through lush gardens, or pamper body and spirit at the spa with an herbal wrap or hot stone therapy. Fine dining and casual eateries, as well as shopping venues, are also available on premises, with complimentary shuttle service to different locations (although some are within easy walking distance of the hotel).Horseshoe Bay

Golf is a year-round sport, so accomplished players should check out Ram Rock, one of the most challenging courses in Texas. Apple Rock is situated on high rocky terrain with lovely views of lake and hills. Slick Rock has 82 sand traps and water hazards to test your skills. It’s known for signature hole #14, nicknamed the “Million Dollar Hole,” where golfers must drive alongside a cascading waterfall through a low level creek to reach the fairway.  As names suggest, all harmonize beautifully with the natural Hill Country landscape.

Even if you’re not a golfer, don’t skip the unique Whitewater Putting Course by the hotel. This par-72 competitive course is fun for all ages and abilities. Designed with fairways, bunkers, and water hazards, it plays like a regular golf course, just entirely on a Bermuda grass putting surface. After your game stroll by the flamingo habitat, talking parrots, fitness trail, water arch, and soothing waterfall.

Slip on your bathing suit and head to one of four pools: lagoon-style pool with black marble basin at the Yacht Club; multi-tiered rock setting of Cap Rock pool, highlighted by a 30-foot cascading waterfall; the heated, fiber-optic lit pool, hot tub, and kid’s pools at the hotel; or the more private Paseo pool. Take in some sun on a white sand beach behind the Yacht Club on the shores of Lake LBJ. Pontoon boats, wave runners, ski boats, and fishing excursions are all available for rental.

A kids’ club is available for children four to 12 years old, and pets are allowed in the separate Paseo accommodations.  Texan or not, be sure to sample the chef’s signature chicken-fried lobster for dinner at the Lantana Grill.
