Summer getaway to the Westin La Cantera in San Antonio

Pools at La CanteraWestin La Cantera Resort –  San Antonio, Texas.
The Westin La Cantera is located approximately 12 miles from the San Antonio International Airport and 15 miles from downtown San Antonio. Even in traffic, a taxi ride from the airport to the resort takes less than a half hour.

Once part of the Hill Country limestone quarries, the Westin La Cantera retains the charm  and ruggedness of old Texas. With stone buildings, wrought iron detailing and old fashioned Texas roses in the garden, the Westin La Cantera does not forget its Texas ranch roots.

The resort is situated high on a hill overlooking San Antonio. Upscale amenities and current decor make for a beautiful environment.  At night guests can enjoy the twinkling lights of the city.

The landscaped grounds include six pools, three hot tubs, health club and spa, tennis courts, restaurants, a kids club, family activity areas, ballrooms and meeting space. Flowering tropical plants accent the lobby and the landscaped areas.

The resort is surrounded by live oak and native plants. Enjoy the hiking trail and you may just run into some deer or wild turkeys in the early morning mist.

Rooms and Casitas
Rooms at the Westin La Cantera are spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The bathrooms are large and well-lighted with natural stone counter tops.

They also have casitas and luxury suites. The king room that I enjoyed overlooked the swimming pools and the Texas Hill Country in the distance. The room had all the comforts including “Heavenly Bed,” mini-bar and flat screen TV. The only amenity lacking was a refrigerator/microwave.  More on the accommodations

There are special “pure” rooms for those with allergies. The resort permits neither pets nor smoking.

Francesca’s has partnered with Uncertain Farms and other local ranchers and farmers to feature locally and naturally grown produce, buffalo, quail, antelope and Akaushi beef.

And for the early-morning folks, rest assured that the lobby houses a Starbuck’s Coffee shop.
