Table Rock Dam and State Park – Branson

Trout Fishing

Table Rock State Park is the best in the Midwest, according to readers of  Triple-A’s Midwest Traveler magazine. Check out these fun and free family activities at the lake. There is more fun in Branson than just the attractions on the Strip and Highway 76 – Country Music Boulevard.

The Dewey Short Visitors Center – The Visitors Center is open from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. One of Table Rock Lake’s greatest assets is the Dewey Short Visitors Center and Gift Shop near the dam.

Several interactive nature displays, activities, movies and educational programs are offered free. Fish and wildlife exhibits tell the story of Table Rock Lake and the Ozarks Rivers Heritage. Maps and information about walking and biking trails in Table Rock Lake Park and the Branson area are available here at no charge. Table Rock Dam and Powerhouse – was designed to generate hydro-electric power from Table Rock Lake and serve as flood control for the White and Lower Mississippi Rivers.

The Table Rock Dam Tour is well worth the small cost: Adults (ages 12 & up) $14.50* and Children (ages 6-11): $8.00 *Prices include sales tax. Children under 6 not admitted in the Dam. Order tickets online.

With record amounts of water flowing through the flood gates, now is a great time to take the tour. It is hard to imagine what 68,000 cubic feet of water per second looks like until you see it first hand.

The Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery Don’t miss the opportunity to see the free movie and learn how trout are produced and how the hatchery supports the unending demand for trout throughout the state.

The primary role for this facility is the production of rainbow and brown trout for the Missouri Conservation Department. The hatchery typically produces 301,000 pounds of trout each year, that’s about 1,125,000 catchable trout annually.

The hatchery and conservation center are located on Highway 165 just south of Branson, below the dam at Table Rock Lake.
