If you’ve arrived early in the Dallas area for this weekend’s Super Bowl, you’re probably freezing your buns off right now. The glazing of ice that Dallas received early this week will soon be covered with new-fallen snow. But, you know what they say–when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping! And there’s no better place in the Dallas area to shop than the rapidly growing community of Frisco, which also offers a wide variety of concerts and events, four professional sports teams, and more than 150 pieces of art on public display.

The Stonebriar Centre Mall in Frisco boasts some of the best shopping in the metroplex, as well as an NHL-sized ice arena (the largest rink in any Dallas-area mall), in case you haven’t gotten enough of all that ice while skidding on the Texas roads right now. Stadium and table seating on the upper level of The Ice offers shoppers a great view while they cheer on a game or enjoy a meal. Take a break from shopping to rent skates and enjoy one of the daily public sessions.

Stonebriar Mall Fun

Stonebriar Centre Mall is anchored by several department stores, including Dillard’s, JCPenney, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Sears.

Fashion retailers like J. Crew, Banana Republic, Gap, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Forever 21 draw the young and young-at-heart fashionistas to the Mall.

Super Bowl fans on the prowl for NFL-themed merchandise will probably want to check out the Sports & Fitness shops–Champs, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Fanzz, Field of Dreams, and Finish Line.

Small fry will delight in the Build-A-Bear Workshop, The Disney Store, the Indoor Safari Park & Toy Store, and the Lego store.

Stonebriar Centre Mall is fun for the whole family to enjoy. Besides ice skating at The Ice, you and your kids can ride the carousel, visit the Children’s Play Area, play electronic games at Dave and Buster’s, or catch a movie at the AMC 24-screen Theatre.

You can also take a break from shopping in the Byte Site Food Court or at one of the other dining destinations in the Mall, like the California Pizza Kitchen, The Cheesecake Factory, Buca di Beppo, Jason’s Deli, and TGI Friday’s.

Best of all, there are tons of special sales, coupon events, and promotions going on at the Stonebriar Centre Mall this month, and you can learn all about them by going to the Mall’s website’s Sales Page.

IKEA store in Frisco, Texas

The diehard shopaholic needs to hear only one word to know that shopping in Frisco is fabulous: IKEA. Yes, I’m talking about that Swedish retail behemoth that is synonymous with affordable, ultra-modern home furnishings and decor.

At 310,000 square feet and filled with 10,000 home furnishing products, the Frisco store is a shopping wonderland. Try the Swedish meatballs and lingonberries (produced by low, evergreen trees throughout Scandinavia’s forests) in the IKEA cafeteria, washed down with a glass of lingonberry juice, to fortify yourself before hitting the mazelike floors. Then wander among the model “dream homes” in the IKEA showrooms, some of them only 270 feet square. (You could easily live in one of the model homes, just coming out periodically to snack in the Swedish Food Market.)

Hungry for something other than Swedish fare? Watch for the next article in this series, Come in out of the cold while in Dallas for the Super Bowl, Part 3, because I’ve saved the best place to eat in the Dallas area for last.
