“Mister, are you looking for a tour, how about sailing or fishing? Hey, is that a Tilley
hat? I love Tilley hats”. The hawker of tours on the street in Puerto Vallarta spotted my husband’s Tilley hat and gave him the thumbs up.
What makes a Tilley hat so special? Probably the best feature is that you can smash it down flat in your suitcase and it magically springs to life looking unwrinkled and fresh. There are other features that are not to be missed as well. It has a little bit of foam in the crown that makes it float—great if you’re boating. The hat repels rain and has a hidden cord you can use if it gets windy. Security minded travelers will appreciate the hidden pocket that can hold money, keys, even a slim MP3 player. It’s also insured against loss for two years after purchase. If the hat is lost or damaged you can get another hat for 50% of the cost.
Made in Canada, durable and stylish, this hat makes a great traveling companion. Even street vendors in Mexico understand the value of a great hat. Available at Amazon.com as well as direct from Tilley’s website.

Wow, that hat sounds fabulous!
Sounds like a great present for not only travelers but for those who like just strolling in the sun.
This is really a cool hate. Do they have them for women?
Actually, you’re joining a fraternity. Tilley wearers flock together, whether in the Keys or the trout streams of the north; and the canvas ones survive the washer quite well – just don’t use heat in the dryer. Enjoy for years.
Hadn’t heard of them before but what a great idea to have pockets in a hat. Also like that they are easy to pack and can be replaced at half cost if lost.
We sailed for years with our Tilley hats, and they are still with us. The big brimmed one was a bit heavy on my head, so I usually wore the smaller one. Fantastic hats, and check out the rest of their products. They are eternal.
Looking for a hat for my husband for an upcoming trip to India. Mostly to protect from sun and heat. Is this good for that or just for sailing type stuff.
Tilley makes a variety of hats made of different fabrics, including cotton, hemp, nylon and wool, so you can choose a hat that meets different conditions. The hats are definitely versatile and are not specific to sailing. In fact my husband uses his primarily for hiking. The mesh near the crown and the sweat band make it pretty comfortable in hot weather. On the Tilley website (http://www.tilley.com/Hats.aspx) you can search by fabric or activity–a very helpful feature. They make kids hats and hats for women (check out some of the hats made with raffia–very stylish).
